SPIN Prison Training Program

The Humane Society Pet Rescue and CCA Moore Haven Prison joined together in a rehabilitation program.

SPIN is our dogs in prison training program. Select inmates in CCA Moore Haven prison rehabilitate dogs so they are well behaved family pets.

The dogs help to rehabilitate the inmates teaching them a life long experience during a 12 week course. The inmates learn techniques of basic training, grooming, and treating animals in a humane way.The inmate trainer and the assistant inmate trainer take their assigned dog to classroom settings as they attend school, visitation, run track, and sleep in the same room. The inmates teach them basic behavior commands, house training, socializing with humans and other dogs.

After they graduate they are re homed as a companion family pet. When a family adopts one of these pets they are given a free training lesson with the dog. The class is held at our facility in Okeechobee.
